De Maisparkiet is een papegaaiachtige die veel op de eilanden voorkomt. Ze maken veel lawaai en zijn meestal met een groep, dus ze zijn niet te missen. Landen doen ze bij voorkeur hoog in bomen, dus ze van heel dichtbij te zien is lastiger. Ze zijn wat kleiner dan de Lora.

De geelvleugelamazone op de eilanden Lora genoemd is een beschermde papegaaiensoort die je op de eilanden regelmatig tegen komt.
De vogel is ongeveer 33 cm groot en de mannetjes en de vrouwtjes zien er precies hetzelfde uit. Kenmerken zijn de smalle donkergroene randen om de veren, waardoor het lijkt of de vogel geschubd is. Het groen van de borst en buik heeft een blauwachtige tint hun kop is geel.
Nestelen doen ze in grote groepen in rotsspleten of holen in bomen en grote cactussen.
Ze houden van droge vegetatie met veel cactussen en doornig struikgewas. Hun dieet bestaat uit fruit, zaden, bloemen en cactussen.
